Looking Sad Treatment in South Wales
For when you Look Sad or Miserable when you Feel Happy
Why do I look sad when I feel good?
Looking like a right misery guts when you're not is usually because your mouth looks sad. Sometimes it can be eyes as well but usually looking sad is because our lips are doing the talking - when we're not talking.
We've all grown up knowing that happy people smile and a smile means the mouth corners turn upwards. At rest or feeling emotionally neutral, you might expect to look neutral. The fact is though that once you're into your 40s and 50s and above, chances are your mouth corners will have dropped from where they used to live. Your resting expression may have evolved into a slight downturn or a more dramatic "sad clown". The bad news is, without intervention, the only way is down.
Why does looking sad when you're not matter?
A perceived sour puss expression can lead people to think you are discontent. Wearing signs of negative emotions like sadness on your face can affect the way you are perceived by other people and more importantly, can affect the way you feel in yourself. Feedback between your brain and body tells your face muscles when you feel sad or happy and puts a matching expression on your face. Vice versa, when your face is in an unhappy expression, your brain can think you look sad so you must be feeling sad!
Relatively recent scientific research shows that relaxing the frown muscles for example could influence the mood of the treated person. It must be stressed, research in this area is new and evolving, but it it certainly interesting.
How can I look happier?
Botulinum toxin (Botox or Bocouture) can be used to relax the "sad muscles" and reduce their activation. This is a safe and effective treatment in the hands of an experts.
